UGH!  This was such a horrible & emotional show for me.  You’d think by looking at this awesome line-up of Blues Traveler, Lenny Kravitz, Rusted Root, & Natalie Merchant that I would have had a blast at this show.  Yeah, not so much.  I had gotten back together with my boyfriend the month before (after a brief break-up) on the night of my birthday (6/14).  And then about 3 weeks later after a ton of awkwardness and a horrible blow-out, we ended it for good the weekend of the Fourth of July holiday.  Yeah, this show was just over a week later, so I was not exactly my happy self.  In fact, I was pretty miserable.  And to make matters worse, I knew he was supposed to be at this show with his roommate.  And who should my best friend & I see almost immediately after we got there?  Yes, my ex’s roommate.  That encounter literally felt like a slap in the face.  We talked to him for a bit & we told him to bring my ex back over with him to come hang out with us.  Do ya think that happened?  Nope!  And that felt like a punch in the stomach.  I was so upset and proceeded to drown my sorrows in beer.  Oh yeah, I was feeling no pain after that.  In fact, I don’t remember Natalie Merchant at all.  I do kinda remember Rusted Root because they were a lot of fun.  Their music made us dance around.  But by the time Lenny Kravitz came on, I was-you can say-a little out of it.  I vaguely remember his set…vaguely.  Once Blues Traveler came on, I can’t say that I was myself.  Here’s their set list:

  1. Alone
  2. Hook
  3. Freedom
  4. Dropping Some NYC
  5. Crash Burn
  6. Dropping Some NYC
  7. But Anyway
  8. Whoops
  9. The Star-Spangled Banner
  10. Fallible
  11. NY Prophesie
  12. Run-Around
  13. Gina
  14. Optimistic Thought
  15. Love & Greed
  16. Encore:
  17. What’s for Breakfast

I’m thinking my best friend & I did not make it to the end of this show.  I’m thinking she had to drive me & my drunk ass home in my car.  I’m also thinking that I was hurting pretty bad the next day for all sorts of reasons.  I do not remember this show fondly, unfortunately.  And it would be my last major show for this year and for a long time to come.  It was just months later that my best friend and I would have a huge falling out, she would move to Australia, and everything in my life would change drastically.  When I lost her…my best friend, my concert buddy, my sister…things would never be the same for me.
