Q101’s Jamboree ’96 @ New World Music Theatre 5/26/96

This was the second year in a row that I was attending Q101′s Jamboree.  This festival was meant to rival Lollapalooza in Chicago.  And this year, it definitely did, especially because Lollapalooza was held way outside the city.  It was a pain in the butt to travel there, while this festival was close to home and so much more convenient.  The line-up was pretty decent, as well…
The Bands

The Main Stage

No Doubt
  • Seven Mary Three
Foo Fighters
Cypress Hill

The Second Stage

  • Stabbing Westward
Girls Against Boys
Afghan Whigs

This was another one of those shows that was a group effort and therefore my memory is a little cloudy. Group effort=mucho partying!  In reading some reviews, I could see that it rained during this show, which is probably why I mostly stayed by the main stage.  We didn’t make it in time for No Doubt.  The first band I remember seeing was Garbage.  I was a HUGE Garbage fan & did not want to miss them.  Shirley Manson rocked…the whole band rocked.  It was great, but unfortunately since I was a little out of it already, I probably didn’t enjoy it as much as I could have.  After Garbage we went back over to the main stage.  I vaguely remember Cracker…vaguely.  And I really wish I had skipped Korn and gone to see Afghan Whigs, but I’m guessing that’s when it started raining because I would much rather have seen Afghan Whigs.  I could NOT get into Korn at all.  I still don’t like them.  I don’t remember Candlebox, probably because I was never a fan of theirs either.  But I do remember Everclear.  They put on a decent set.  I enjoyed it.  Here’s the set list…

  1. Strawberry
  2. Electra Made Me Blind
  3. You Make Me Feel Like a Whore
  4. Pacific Wonderland
  5. Nervous & Weird
  6. Your Genius Hands
  7. Summerland
  8. Heartspark Dollarsign
  9. The Twistinside
  10. Chemical Smile
  11. Sick & Tired
  12. Sin City
(AC/DC cover)
  13. Heroin Girl
  14. Encore:
  15. Santa Monica
  16. American Girl
(Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers cover)

The last band I believe we stayed for was Foo Fighters.  This would be my second time seeing them & I know I enjoyed it, but I think I was dragging at this point, because I don’t remember it as clearly as I should.  This is what they played…

  1. Enough Space
  2. This is a Call
  3. Winnebago
(Late! cover)
  4. Wattershed
  5. For All the Cows
  6. Weenie Beenie
  7. Butterflies
  8. Gas Chamber
(Angry Samoans cover)
  9. Big Me
  10. My Poor Brain
  11. Down in the Park
(Gary Numan cover)
  12. Good Grief
  13. Alone + Easy Target
  14. I’ll Stick Around

This set list was a little bit different, a little bit shorter than when I saw them a couple of months prior.  I think we might have seen the beginning of Cypress Hill and then left.  I still wasn’t a fan and I don’t think any of my friends really were, so we got a jump on escaping before the crowds.  I absolutely had a great time at this show…maybe too good of a time.  lol
