Foo Fighters @ The Riv 3/29/96

When Dave Grohl first came out with his new band, I was a little skeptical.  I had been such a fan of Nirvana that I had serious doubts that their drummer would actually put together a decent band.  Man, was I wrong.  At this point I had no idea how talented Dave Grohl was.  I’m not sure that anybody really knew how talented he was.  But we all found out soon enough.  By the time I went to see this show, I was sold on Foo Fighters and very excited to see them live.  I don’t really remember the opening band, That Dog.  But when I did a little research, I found it pretty interesting that Anna Waronker was the lead singer in the band.  I dig her now, but had no idea who she was back then.  The violinist in this four-piece, Petra Haden, also came out to play during one of the Foo Fighters’ songs.  I vaguely remember that.  I went to this show with my boyfriend at the time.  We enjoyed ourselves and the music.  The set was heavy on their self-titled debut album,  with a few songs from their upcoming album The Colour And The Shapeand a couple covers thrown in for good measure.

  1. Enough Space
  2. This is a Call
  3. Winnebago
(Late! cover)
  4. Wattershed
  5. For All the Cows
  6. Butterflies
  7. Big Me
  8. My Hero
  9. Gas Chamber
(Angry Samoans cover)
  10. Up in Arms
  11. Good Grief
  12. How I Miss You
  13. Alone + Easy Target
  14. I’ll Stick Around
  15. Floaty
(Petra Haden on violin)
  16. Down in the Park
(Gary Numan cover)
  17. Exhausted

I’m so glad I got to see this show.  I was lucky enough to see them perform one more time a couple of months later for a shorter set of music at Q101′s Jamboree ’96.  But I’ve honestly become such a huge fan of this band, especially of Dave Grohl, that I hope one day I can see them perform again.  I’m crazy about Dave Grohl as a person and an artist!  He’s incredible!!
