Bon Jovi @ Rosemont Horizon 3/24/89

At some point toward the end of my Menudo journey, my musical tastes started heading in the direction of rock.  Nothing heavy, but Bon Jovi was a very easy segue way.  Their music was harder than I was used to, but so catchy and fun that I couldn’t help but love it.  I started getting into them so much my Freshman year of college that I went back and bought all their albums from their first one.  I went on a Bon Jovi binge.  It was great!!  My best friend got into them too.  We were always very musically in sync even when living in two different cities.  When one of my floor mates at Illini Tower (University of Illinois) found out that Bon Jovi would be stopping in Chicago for their New Jersey Tour while we were home for Spring Break, we decided to get tickets together.  So the three of us (Jeff, Corina, & I) went to the show.  Wow!!  This was a completely different experience for me than what I had been used to.  The crowd was CRAZY!!!  And throughout the show EVERYONE was singing along to every song.  Skid Row was the opening band and were unknown to me at the time.  They were a little harder than Bon Jovi musically.  And it took me a little time to get into them.  I’ll admit, I wasn’t sold at this show.  But once I heard a little more from them, and let’s be real, once I saw Sebastian Bach up close, I became a fan.  I managed to track down a set list for Skid Row’s show and am including it here:

  1. Makin’ a Mess
  2. Piece of Me
  3. Big Guns
  4. 18 and Life
  5. Can’t Stand the Heartache
  6. Rattlesnake Shake
  7. I Remember You
  8. Here I Am
  9. Youth Gone Wild

It was a perfect mix of the hits off of their debut album.  And so began my journey into the new and wonderful world of ROCK!
