What a better way to transition my move to Orlando than by attending a Menudo Reunion show two months before I moved?? Yeah, I know how to do things BIG! lol When I first heard about this show, I wasn’t totally convinced that I even would go. But with some convincing from my friend that lived there, I finally gave in and planned my trip. She really made things easier by getting us the great tickets in second row and adding on an After Party pass to sweeten the deal. I was all in! In fact, by the time I arrived in Orlando I was super excited. My friend picked me up from the airport and we literally headed straight to the venue. I knew this was going to be the case, so I dressed for the show. When we got to The UCF Arena, we parked and walked over to the side entrance where we saw Ricky Melendez. That was so surreal.
We talked to him for a couple of minutes and then slipped into the venue to watch some of the guys rehearse and sound check. That didn’t last too long. Once we were spotted, security kicked us out. That was fine, we hung around and chatted with all the girls we had met before the show and the ones we had met the day of the show. It’s always fun to interact with other Menudo girls. Once we were allowed into the arena, we walked around a little and ran into Ray’s little brother, Raul, who we had been pretty friendly with over the past couple of years. We chatted a little with him and then ended up heading down to our seats. I was nervous to hear them perform after all these years. I was afraid it would be cheesy. But honestly, it was so much fun. Here’s a clip of their song “Ella A A”:
Seeing them perform-all 6 of them…Charlie, Miguel, Ray, Rene, Ricky, & Johnny-brought me back to some wonderful times in my life. I had a real blast. Johnny, ever the ladies-man, was the only one to hop down from the stage during one of his songs to greet all the ladies. He made sure to walk up and down giving out hugs and kisses. Yeah, I admit it, I took advantage.
I had so much fun at the show I almost forgot that we were going to be heading up to the After Party once the show was over. Wow!! What a night!! Once we were up there, I got kind of nervous. I hadn’t seen some of these guys in person in years. The last ones I had seen were Charlie & Ray, but Charlie will always give me butterflies. I was like a silly schoolgirl when I got next to him for a picture. You can see it in my face. The one I was most excited to see was Miguel. I’ve always had such a special place in my heart for him. And since he was still recovering from a severe hand injury, it was pretty evident that he wasn’t 100% for the performance. I was so glad he was even there. I was thrilled to see him in person one more time.
This day is one for the books. I had an incredible time both at the show and at the After Party. It was all about innocent fun & friendship once again. That’s how I grew up with these guys and it was nice to relive those same childhood sentiments.
