My friend, Raj, who I had hung out with numerous times in the late 90′s at Funky Buddha Lounge called me out of the blue right before his company party. Raj was someone who I had gone to high school with (he was two years behind me), but I never actually knew him in high school. We met at Funky Buddha Lounge almost ten years after I had graduated high school through my friend that cocktailed there. He & I hadn’t talked for a while, so I caught him up on my plans for moving to New York in the next couple of months. As soon as he found out how soon I would be leaving, he invited me to this company party/concert so we could hang out before I took off. I thought that was so cool of him. I was also excited to see Natalie Merchant perform. I loved her! The funny thing is that I was stuck seeing Spin Doctors AGAIN! I kinda laughed about it and tried to enjoy their opening performance. But I have to admit, it was DAMN hard. lol Once Natalie came on, we got pretty close to the stage. Since it was a company party, everyone was down on the floor to enjoy the show.
It was so amazing to have such a small audience for such a great artist. I really, really enjoyed her performance. She was so cute and fun. She even took an audience member’s glass of wine and took a sip…or two. It was great! I didn’t expect her to have such a fun personality. What a nice surprise. I wish I had taken more pictures!! Nevertheless, I will always have the memories.
