As if one Ultra Music Festival wasn’t enough?? Ay! What was I thinking? Well, what I was thinking was, ‘what a great way to celebrate my exit from a job that had been making me miserable for the past year!’ And boy was I right. My very good friend and co-worker convinced me that this trip would be the perfect way to transition into my new life. HA! That was one way of justifying another crazy trip to South Beach. I was down. So I flew to Miami with Beli & his boyfriend, Josh, two very good friends of mine. They had lived in Miami for years before moving to NYC, so we stayed with a couple of friends of theirs. This made our trip much more affordable, which for me was great since technically I was unemployed. The first night we were there we ended up going to a club to begin our electronic music weekend of fun. We had such a great night: dancing and partying. The day of the festival, we headed out in the afternoon to Bicentennial Park. For some reason, there was a massive line to get in. We ended up waiting FOREVER. And in that time, we had partaken of some smokey treats, so we were feeling great. I had to use the restroom and decided to go by myself to find one. Well, that turned into a huge misadventure. Not only could I not find anything open in this part of Miami, but I almost made a public nuisance of myself because I REALLY had to use the bathroom. I was a mess and nearly in tears when my friends finally got a hold of me on my cell phone (after an HOUR) and rescued me. They pulled me into a seedy hotel and pushed me into the bathroom. I don’t think I’ve ever been so happy to relieve myself. Wow! Well, finally we went back to the park and were able to get in. Here we go again with the haze. Hmm, here’s what I do remember. We walked around a bit. I knew The Killers were performing so we tried walking over to hear them. It was so crowded and their music just didn’t fit our mood, so after like two minutes, we ended up moving on. I’m not really sure who we heard that day. I think we went into Carl Cox’s tent and caught some of his set:
As for any other specific DJ’s…you got me. I have no idea. Maybe my friends can help me out and chime in on the comments because I’m drawing a big blank. My friend did chime in and told me we also had the chance to hear Paul Oakenfold (who we actually saw out on Ocean Drive that same weekend) & Paul Van Dyk. It was a great day & night. We had a blast. It really did turn out to be the perfect way to celebrate my moving on in life.
