My Music Picks

The two artists that I’m highlighting in this playlist couldn’t come from more different worlds.  I’ve been a fan of both for years but for very different reasons.  The first group of songs come from Common’s latest, Nobody’s Smiling.  I have to be honest that it took me many listens before this album really took hold of me.  It’s not one of my favorites from him, but I have a lot of respect for the music he puts out.  I was first introduced to his music by an ex in 2000.  I liked his vibe and approach to music right away and have followed his career since Like Water For Chocolate.  He’s a fellow Chicagoan and he stays true and loyal to his roots, so I can’t HELP but respect that.  It seems that Common went back to the boys he came up with for this album.  And maybe that’s why it sounds so different and low-key to me.  These five songs are my favorites.  And one thing that I noticed is that this whole album sounds even better when played very loud!! 🙂

51zTwL7uZnL._SL500_AA280_I have been listening to Tom Petty since I was a little girl in the 70’s.  The fact that he is still putting out music, good music, is a testament to his amazing talent and longevity.  This latest release, Hypnotic Eye, really goes back to his early music; The music and the content, while reminiscent of his early stuff, are definitely relevant to today.  All I have to say is listen & learn.  Love me some Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers!! 🙂
