Parquet Courts.  Caribou.  Grouplove.  What do they have in common?  Absolutely nothing of which I’m aware.  Except for the fact, that is what I’ve been listening to non-stop in the past few weeks.  The Parquet Courts album was actually a step back in time for me.  I have two other albums from them, but I hadn’t yet discovered “Tally All The Things That You Broke”.  It’s actually a 5-song EP.  My two favorites are the most uptempo ones…the ones that make you bop around because you just can’t sit still while the song is playing.  Yeah, just try.  It’s not happening! I’m not sure what it is that I like so much about this band.  They’re really not the melodic, pop that I usually am attracted to.  But there’s a sense of effortless joy in their music that is simply infectious.

Tally All The Things That You BrokeCaribou has been on my radar for a long time now, but I never managed to follow through and lock down one of his albums.  It was nothing like what I expected.  I had no idea Caribou did electronic dance music.  What??  I think Dan Snaith a.k.a. Caribou sticks his hand in different genres of music, but “Our Love” is definitely groovy, groovy electronic.  I really love this album.  It has a low tempo movement to it that just feels good.  My absolute favorite song, that rocks my world, is “Back Home”.  Try not to listen to it five times in a row the first time you hear it.  Let me know how that works out for you.  Check out the whole album.  These are my four favorite songs, but the entire album is amazing!

Our LoveGrouplove is another band that I recently dug into.  After listening to & loving their latest album, “Spreading Rumours”, I had to backtrack to their previous album.  And, honestly, I like “Never Trust A Happy Song” as much as the first album I heard.  You’ll have a hard time finding a bad song on there.  I had a hard time picking out my favorites because of it.  This band makes beautiful, catchy hippy music.  It’s irresistible stuff.  I look forward to hearing more from them in the future.
