The music I’m including in My Picks are kind of all over the place…in a good way.  The first set of songs from FKA Twigs’ LP1 are sultry, sexy yumminess.  The first thing to go through my mind upon first listen to this album was, ‘this girl’s the female counterpart to The Weeknd.’  Yup, the bare, electronic, but very sensual music is just a backdrop to her no-holds barred lyrics.  She says what’s on her mind with no regrets and she’s lured me into her web of music…I totally dig this album.

LP1Do any of you remember Judith Hill?  Back in the days of my watching The Voice, I bore witness to an amazing talent in Judith Hill.  Man, this woman can sing!!  I thought she was fantastic when I saw her on the show, but I didn’t hear anything about her after she was prematurely voted off.  Then the other day, I received an email from Ticketmaster with a link to a free download of her new album, Back In Time, produced by none other than Prince.  Yup. Discovering that this legendary artist (one of my favorites) backed Ms. Hill made me more than a little curious to check out the whole album. Her first release since her appearance on the show is a collection of several genres, R & B, Funk, Blues, & Pop to name a few.  I like the album and I definitely hear the Purple One’s influence on some of her songs.  I wonder how much of this music comes solely from her.  I like the album, but I don’t LOVE it.  These four songs are easily my favorites and are a good representation of what she offers on this album.

judithhillOh, Weezer, I will always love you!!  Even this latest album, Everything Will Be Alright In The End, gets me excited.  I’ve been a fan of this band for over 20 years now.  It’s hard to believe that they can still put out new music that I LOVE!!  Many of these songs have the signature Weezer sound, which is part of their charm and one of the reasons I am still a fan.  The grungy guitars, the fantastic harmonies…what’s not to like?  These four stand-out songs combine these two elements and are my faves.  Sometimes you just have to go back to your roots and they definitely do that in this album!
