I woke up on this rainy Sunday morning still smiling from seeing The Cure the night before. I had some breakfast, fed my cats, & then hopped on the computer. As I was scrolling through my Newsfeed on Facebook, I happened to see something about the festival being canceled due to the heavy rains. The rain never stopped from the night before. We saw more rain that night than we had seen in 15 years in Austin. WOW!! I didn’t want to believe that the fest was actually canceled, so I immediately went to the ACL Festival website to see if it was true. And this is what was posted:
AUSTIN – October 13, 2013 – Due to current weather conditions with flash flood warnings, The Austin City Limits Music Festival organizers have canceled the festival for Sunday, October 13.
“Our first priority is always the safety of our fans, staff and artists,” said Shelby Meade, communications director for C3 Presents, the promoter behind Austin City Limits Music Festival. “We regret having to cancel the show today, but safety always comes first.”

Needless to say, I was devastated. It wasn’t even about getting money back for me. It was about missing all the great bands that I had planned on seeing that day. I had planned an amazing Day Three. This is what I missed out on:
- Dawes–2:00pm – 3:00pm
- Grouplove–3:30pm – 4:30pm
- Divine Fits–4:30pm – 5:30pm
- The National–5:30pm – 6:30pm
- Tame Impala–6:30pm – 7:30pm
- Phoenix–7:00pm – 8:30pm
- Atoms For Peace–7:40pm – 9:40pm
- Lionel Richie–8:30pm – 10:00pm
Yeah, I was bummed all day. To be honest, I’m STILL bummed. The ACL website later posted this video showing how much flooding really did affect the park:
Granted it does look pretty bad, but I’m still not sure it was bad enough to cancel the entire day. I’ll never know for sure and I’ll ALWAYS look back on this day with sadness.
